Magnus Strom to Race Across The Atlantic

— 08 October 2016 by Laurie Ström

We are excited to announce that next week, Magnus is flying out to Las Palmas in the Canary Islands to join Scarlet Oyster - an Oyster Lightwave 48 owned by his friend Ross Applebey - to take part in the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (ARC).

The ARC fleet will leave Las Palmas and then trek a massive 2,700 NM across the changeable Atlantic to finish in sunny St. Lucia in the Caribbean.  Around 250 boats will be taking part - some racing and some cruising, and they are split into several different classes. Scarlet is in the Racing Division where competition is fierce...

Magnus has enjoyed a lifelong love of sailing, having grown up in a sailing family.  At the age of 16, after years sailing as a child, he left home and attended a sailing academy in Ängelholm, Sweden, where he spent 3 years sailing Europes, Lasers and Finns. Over the last few years, he has competed on Scarlet Oyster in several RORC offshore races, including the unpredictable Fastnet Race in 2011.

Sailing across the Atlantic has been on Magnus's bucket list for some time, and he is especially proud to be acting as First Mate on Scarlet Oyster - a position of great responsibility.  Scarlet Oyster has won 1st in class in the ARC every year since 2011, so the challenge is on to achieve another first this year!

Good luck Magnus!
